Vaccines came to Kenya, Covid-19 not out

Percentage still at 7, three deceased in last 24 hours

On the day Kenya officially receives its first vaccines from the African Covax programme, which provides for the timely delivery of the first million doses to immunise the health workers and government employees most affected by the Covid-19 emergency, the percentage of positives from the swabs remains at an unsettling 7%.
In the last 24 hours, 331 individuals have tested positive for Covid-19 out of a sample of 4,725 tested. This brings the number of confirmed positive cases since the start of the pandemic to 106,801.
The percentage of positive foreigners out of the day's total, 30 non-Kenyans compared to 301, remained at 10 percent.
In the meantime, the Ministry of Health has announced that 54 patients have recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours. Forty-four of them are from Home-Based and Isolation Care, while 10 were admitted to various health facilities.  The total number of recoveries now stands at 86,914.
Sadly, three more patients died from the disease, raising Kenya's cumulative mortality to 1,866.
In the geographical distribution of cases, Nairobi as usual has the majority of positives, with 196, with outlying Kiambu at 46. On the coast, there were 13 cases in Mombasa and two in Lamu. No swabs were received from Kilifi County.
