ETA, first arrivals in Kenya, but what about the visa?

Updates on the entry system transition

05-01-2024 by Freddie del Curatolo

It's official: electronic travel authorisation to enter Kenya (ETA) works.
At least for now.
The first receipts of acceptance of the application (because the ETA is subject to the issuance of a 'permit to travel to Kenya' but is not a residence visa) have arrived to the filers, after the relevant payment of 32.50 including fees.
We are awaiting 'feedback' (I would still say 'feedback') on the relevant visa that will be affixed upon arrival at the airport.

According to the authorities, the visa should be relative to the return ticket from Kenya that must be attached.
Another question concerns the entry of minors: having ascertained that they too must do the ETA and that, as is written in the warnings on the site, the responsibility for filling it in for the under-18s lies with their parents, it is not yet clear whether they have to pay.
Yet another is residents, who were not required to have a visa and now have to fill out the ETA? Will they pay as much as tourists or will they fill out a different ETA?

In this case, of course, those leaving with children, at least under 16, would be better off, as long as possible, to do the online visa, which is still available.
But the coexistence of ETA and EVISA, in the coming days, will surely create misunderstandings and new issues to be addressed, ground on which unfortunately often the corruption inherent in the institutions in Kenya, as President William Ruto also mentioned recently when speaking about the judiciary, wallows.
As always, we will keep you more than updated.
