Kenya asks for help, opportunities for Italian companies

Interesting deals open up for private-government agreements

14-11-2022 by redazione

The new Kenyan government is ready to receive proposals for partnerships, financing with returns, project financing and any other form of collaboration with foreign entities in the field of agriculture, irrigation and livestock, as well as renewable energy.
Italian companies are warned: now is the time to take an interest and formulate proposals, and the forthcoming reopening in Nairobi of the Institute of Foreign Trade (ICE) is aimed at helping companies that want to invest in this country that never before, by its president William Ruto's own admission, is open and wants to facilitate inclusion in the country's productive system, with benefits for everyone: companies, state and population. Ruto made it clear that the state has opted for a partnership with private entities because funds from the national treasury budget are not sufficient to cover the projects.
Among the projects already started is the construction of 100 dams in the country, but Ruto's idea is to reach 1,000 as soon as possible.
"We will build them to help irrigation, for livestock and for general use," Ruto said.
The great drought that is plaguing the country makes it necessary to think about the survival of at least 4.5 million people, who never before, with the lack of consistent small rains, risk losing everything and having no alternative to the blackest hunger. The president said the dam projects will be implemented under a public-private partnership program.
Speaking during Sunday mass in Kabarnet, he said he wants to put more than six million farmers who will need water for their livestock back to work.
"We plan to empower about six million farmers to increase our food production. That is why we plan to build more dams for water to be used for irrigation, household and livestock," the president said.
In addition to irrigation systems, fertilizer production, and renewable energy, the government recently passed a law allowing the production of genetically modified land products in Kenya.
