With twenty days to go before the vote in Kenya, presidential contenders Raila Odinga and William Ruto are stepping up their campaign activities and raising the tone, heating up the spirits of their fellow citizens and earning them daily beatings and responses in the media and on social networks. Nothing, fortunately, that from verbal political skirmishes has yet concretely turned into brawls and riots, except for a few tear gas thrown into the air at rallies featuring local candidates of opposing factions.
Meanwhile, after a period of silence and institutional duties before leaving State House, Kenyatta returned to public speaking and did so by directly supporting former rival and opposition candidate Odinga for the first time. A move that could divide the most conservative electorate of his tribe, the Kikuyu, who resent the 'baba' of the historically opposed ethnic group, the Luo.
