Rising temperatures and great heat on the Kenyan coast these days. The wet wind of the monsoon season, Kuzi, is running out of steam and giving way to the "middle wind," what Swahili fishermen call Tanga Mbili.
In a month or so Kaskazi, the wind of the dry season, the equatorial summer, will finally arrive.
Meteorologists say there will soon be rains in the interior and in the savannah but it is not known whether on the sea they will arrive in the first weeks of April or toward the end of the month. Much will depend on who wins the battle of the winds bringing the disturbance to the coast.
In the meantime, for those tourists who have enjoyed the last tail end of the season, and for those who extend until Easter or have been thinking of taking a "little trip" by taking advantage of the bridges, the days in Malindi, Watamu and Mambrui, sun and sea a go-go, relaxation and tan guaranteed, with crystal clear ocean also in Malindi where, as is well known, in a while the coloration of the water will occasionally change due to the currents coming from the Sabaki River.
