North coast of Kenya, from Magarini in Kilifi back in anguish for closing water taps by the Coast Water Service Board, which administers the central Baricho water from which almost all of the water supply to the County of Kilifi. No water for three days and hotel reservations and private homes are over, partly because of the great heat of these days. A situation that adds to the hinterland severe drought plaguing the coast in this period, with the almost total absence of so-called "short rains".
They were two months that was not the case a hardship that residents of Malindi and Watamu in particular know very well and that the tourism sector was hoped been archived. Last January, the Coast Water Service Board had closed the taps for five days, complaining publicly that the Government of the County of Kilifi had accumulated a debt of 344 million shillings. After that he had come to an agreement for payment by installment of debt. But after a few months the problem was revived, and so almost every month until last August.
Yet we do not know for what will last the discomfort, but business associations and local traders are already on a war footing and complaints and grievances have already joined in Kilifi, but also in high levels in Nairobi. We'll see, hoping that the problem will be solved once and for all.
