A station wagon car with two, maybe four people on board ended up at sea in the canal between Likoni and Mombasa, during the ferry between the mainland and the Kenyan island-city at 6pm of sunday.
The car, a Toyota Probox, according to witnesses driven by a woman and with a boy by her side, and according to others with two people in the rear seats, slipped due to a driver's mistake, probably a reverse gear inserted by mistake, and was thrown out of the back of the ferry, ending up in the middle of the canal, and then quickly vanished to the bottom of the water and was dragged away by the strong currents of the Likoni canal.
The search for the vehicle and the (now vain) attempts to save the occupants of the vehicle continue during the night, while the ferry service has been suspended. 
This is the statement of the authorities of Likoni's ferry: "With great sadness we confirm the accident that occurred on board the MV Harambee that was leaving from the mainland to the island of Mombasa at 6.15 p.m., when a "saloon" car with two people on board was tipped over falling into the ocean and being carried away by the current. Neither the car nor the occupants have yet been recovered".
