The bodies of three people were recovered in the Likoni canal, after last night (READ HERE THE PREVIOUS NEWS) a station wagon car had crashed into the Indian Ocean directly from the ferry that was crossing the canal from the mainland to the island on which the city of Mombasa stands.
She is a mother, Mariam Kighenda and her two daughters, one four years old and the other younger. All three are Kenyan nationals.
The woman, according to testimonies, accidentally reversed the car and pressed the accelerator. In doing so, the car would jump over the low stern barrier of the ferry and overturn. An amateur video shows how the Toyota Probox sank in seconds.
The rescuers, from the shore, equipped themselves but once they arrived at the scene, in the dark, it took them many hours to recover the vehicle and the dead bodies. The investigations conducted by the authorities of Mombasa, besides the fatality, do not exclude the hypothesis of suicide.
