The airport authority of Malindi organized another meeting yesterday with residents of the district Kisumundogo, the slum interested in part of the eviction to make way for the new runway International Airport, whose enlargement work should be expected from next July.
Other structural changes are being finalized, and so you start to prepare the ground for what has always been the biggest stumbling block to the creation of a modern cargo airport in which they can also land the Boeing 747 arriving from other continents.
The inhabitants of the densely populated suburb have seen it coming in recent days for the umpteenth time the experts to demarcate the land and point out the homes to be torn down. But residents have protested vociferously: "We were not warned previously of these tests - said the spokesman of the residents of Kisumundogo to The Star newspaper - also there are still open questions about land ownership titles."
Most of the citizens of the affected villages, in addition to also Kisumundogo Kwachocha, Furunzi and Majengo Mapya, complain that there are still many terrains without a legal owner, including some cases to be discussed in court. To whom then will the repayments? Many inhabitants complain of not being abusive, but it was waiting for regularization.
A more difficult issue to solve in which the KAA is playing a key role, that of mediation.
