Ethiopia has temporarily closed the Bole International Airport to civilian aircraft due to bad weather.
In a statement just now, the national airline Ethiopian Airlines said that all flights have been diverted to nearby airports.
Due to heavy rain during the night on Sunday and thick fog this morning, the Ethiopian Air Force decided to divert all flights.
Two Ethiopian Airlines flights and one Turkish Airlines flight were on the verge of landing at Bole airport and could not do so due to the weather.
"Out of an abundance of caution, flights bound for Addis Ababa are diverting to nearby airports due to bad weather around Bole airport," the airline said.
"As safety is our top priority, flights to Addis Ababa are now landing at alternative airports and will return to their original destination when the weather improves." The airline apologised for the inconvenience caused.
"We will keep you updated on the status of flights," the authorities said.
