Malindi stakeholders temporarily fill potholes

Associations and Municipal works well together

27-07-2019 by Freddie del Curatolo

It wasn't too hard. For certain things it takes good will, the collaboration of sensitive administrations and above all to put aside the instincts of protest, the polemics and sterile complaints that by now are well understood do not serve any purpose, if not to vent our frustrations.
Now malindikenya.net has aligned itself with the positions of the citizens' association Progress Welfare Association Malindi (PWAM) and after creating with them the movement Malindi Green And Blue, is turning the ideas and intentions to improve Malindi into reality.
This time we have decided not to wait for the future works of resurfacing of the Malindi seafront road (which will succed and after we explain why this time we are almost certain) but to ask permission to carry out temporary patches, but done well, to the Sub District of Malindi of the County Government of Kilifi.
Having to deal with them on a daily basis, we have discovered leaders driven by our own enthusiasm and desire to bring Malindi back to its former glory. From Town Manager Ngundo, to the new Administrator Dadu, to the official head of roads Kerongo, just as we have been working very well with the entire Department of the Environment for a long time.
So we got the approval and in no time we found the help of a generous resident who holds in Malindi like us, living there for 36 years. Fernando "Masharubu" Vischi has provided a truck, its employees, tools and serious material to cover more than temporarily the holes. Yesterday morning we left from the fish market, where there was the biggest abyss that moreover someone had tried to cover roughly with stones that we had to remove.
In one day, to do things properly, we covered all the holes up to the front of the Portuguese House of Columns which houses the ethnographic museum and library of Malindi.
The other good news is the side effect of this initiative: from Mombasa in the afternoon came the head of the company of Mombasa who has already taken the contract for the work of remaking the road surface from the post office in Casuarina. The first section of the works will cover the seafront up to Silversand (Mariposa). The contractor has assured that the work will begin as soon as possible and the agreement does not provide for more than eight months.
In the meantime, however, we are moving forward, again thanks to Masharubu and we hope for the help of other entrepreneurs or simple residents. Since Monday it has been recovering.
In the meantime, those who want to do the same thing for the first stretch of Casuarina, or the area of the Marine Park, can ask us and it is not certain that we can have other temporary authorizations.
