Honestly, I don't care about the potholes in the streets of Malindi.
Me too hope they'll be repaired soon, but I'm not making a big deal out of it.
I have been coming here three times a year for five years now and I think Malindi is seriously saving my life.
My daily walk on the beach of Silversand, where by now the beach boys know me and greet me "good morning Mr. Franco", as by now in Verona I am no longer even a charcuterie; my cocacola (excuse me, I am a teetotaler and I know that the director would require me to write "my tusker baridi sana") at sunset at the Osteria, the chats with the Italian manager on duty of the pizzerias I attend (because in Malindi the pizza is better than in Italy) and the air you breathe.
Don't you think there are good reasons to forget about the holes in the street?
Then I add the smile of Katana, my handyman who at most asks me for a loan to study his daughter, the availability of Mama Esther who gives me exceptional massages (and without ulterior motives), the punctuality and sympathy of my tuk tuk of confidence.
Yesterday the light went out for a few hours, maybe because I don't work here but I didn't even notice it, maybe without a fan it was a bit warmer than usual.
I thought about the Italian storms, the sad faces, the people who are hugging for sardines or sardines, how stupid we are, presumptuous and defeatist we Italians when we enter a hole and forget the beautiful things of life. Enjoy the beauty of Malindi, which there is so much and ... stay there as much as possible!
