New visas coming for tourists and workers in Kenya

Also a special residence permit for 'digital nomads'

Are you a smartworker and would you like to reside in Kenya with a special residence visa, other than a tourist visa, that would allow you to quietly carry out your profession and at the same time roam freely for longer periods than foreign travellers are allowed to holiday, as well as enter and leave the country without having to pay for visas and electronic travel authorisation (eTA)?
According to Kenyan President William Ruto's announcement yesterday, this will very soon be possible. Although it has not yet provided the details and modalities of this special permit for ‘digital nomads’, as it has been called, the Kenyan government has already studied this and other innovations to attract more foreigners, tourists and non-tourists, as well as businessmen or travellers passing through, to the country. This option will most likely already be available through the ETA.
For instance, another new visa ready to come into effect will allow foreign travellers who use the Nairobi hub as a connecting flight to other destinations, to leave Nairobi (and we assume Mombasa as well) and visit the country, for instance enjoying a safari or a few days at the beach, without needing a special visa.
The initiative, according to the government, should improve the travellers' experience and encourage more people to explore Kenya during their transit period. The president hopes that with the introduction of the new visa-free transit pass, tourists will not only visit nearby wildlife havens such as the Maasai Mara but also discover Nairobi's rich cultural and historical offerings.
