There is a Malindi that does not stop at the lack of the bulk of Italian and international tourism and is still preparing to receive local travellers, to entertain residents and homeowners and anyone who, while respecting the Covid-19 restrictions, does not want to spend an African recluse season.
This is also the philosophy and proposal of Nicolò Pojaghi, a young and dynamic Milanese who has frequented Malindi since he was a child (his father Giampiero is one of the historical figures of Italian Malindi and of the locals, having managed the Fermento and with his wife Cristina in times not far from Tangier). Nicolò has decided to reopen Ripasso, an elegant and modern bar that until last year was one of the "hubs" of aperitifs, coffee and snacks at the Sofia Centre in Casuarina.
At the "Ripasso" now it is possible to have breakfast from 7 a.m. with the Bourbon coffee of which Ripasso is an authorized dealer, croissants and even homemade cakes. Then every day the bar offers a wide choice of alcoholic and soft drinks, including juices and smoothies, as well as express cuisine, with dishes that may vary from day to day or the classic "spaghetto al volo". All this in the comfortable outdoor tables, in a modern, clean and street-protected atmosphere, with convenient parking and enviable tranquillity, often counterpointed by good music.
"In the near future - explains Nicolò - we will also have theme evenings and the classic Saturday apericena. The new Ripasso wants to be an international meeting place, open all day and with its highlight from 5pm to closing, now limited to 10pm by curfew".
The enthusiasm of the new manager is a breath of fresh air for Malindi and many residents have already shown they appreciate it. It is worth a visit to get to know him and try his specialities (Spritz number one!). See you soon for evening updates.
