This morning at the State House in Nairobi, Kenya's 'White House', the historic meeting between the first President of the Italian Republic to set foot in the African country and the current incumbent leader will be staged. Sergio Mattarella and William Ruto will shake hands and discuss strengthening relations between the two countries, bilateral agreements, development cooperation and other items that have long been on the agenda of the Italian and Kenyan states.
Later in the morning the Italians in Kenya portal will give you updates directly from the capital.
President Mattarella arrived last night at Nairobi's Jomo Kenyatta International Airport with his daughter Laura and the Quirinale delegation. Also travelling with him was Italian Deputy Foreign Minister Edmondo Cirielli, who will have other important meetings with his counterparts during the day with a view to signing bilateral agreements.
We will also update you on this later.After the high institutional commitment, as reported by the Presidency of the Republic, our Head of State will lay a wreath at the Mausoleum of the first President of the Republic of Kenya, Jomo Kenyatta, accompanied by the Speaker of the National Assembly, Moses Masika Wetangula, and the President of the Senate, Amason Jeffah Kingi, former Governor of Kilifi County.
In the afternoon, he will visit the St Kizito Vocational Training Centre, founded in 1994 with the support of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Association of Volunteers for International Service (AVSI). In the evening, he will attend the State Luncheon hosted by President Ruto.
