From Ukraine to Mombasa, with all the possible attractions that the Kenyan coast can offer.
The partnership between the two countries was born through the County of Mombasa and next April will see the launch of a direct charter flight from Kiev to Kenya's second city, bringing, in the intentions of the operators of the Eastern European nation, over 200 tourists a week to the seaside destinations, particularly to Nyali, Bamburi and Shanzu Beach.
But the nearby counties of Kwale and Kilifi will also benefit from the agreement between the two countries.
Last December, Iryna Lytvyn, Area Manager for Kenya of the leading Ukrainian tourism group, Travel Professional Group, toured the coast to find the best destinations and facilities.
The charter, operated by the Ukrainian company Bees Airlines, will be the first ever to fly directly from Kiev to Sub-Saharan Africa.
Last week, more than 20 Ukrainian tour operators and travel agents stayed in Mombasa and its surroundings to get a first-hand impression of tourist facilities and products, participating in marine excursions, safaris and becoming aware of services and amenities.
The many possibilities that Kenya has to offer within "Destination Africa" according to the Kiev experts make it a unique destination, far more attractive than neighbouring Tanzania and others in terms of value for money.
"This partnership will see Mombasa County receive its first direct Ukrainian charter flight next April to Moi International Airport," explained Mombasa's Director of Trade and Tourism, Asha Abdì, "We have signed a partnership agreement with Ukraine that will give us the opportunity to benefit again from revenues from the tourism sector.
Even in leisure resorts near the city and a few kilometres from the airport, the pandemic crisis has been felt.
"Some hotels have completely closed down, others are operating optimally while the majority are struggling because of the coronavirus that has affected the industry," said Abdì. "But thanks to this partnership we will reactivate many of our tourism products and a new market like Ukraine.
