Real Malindi, the last ones always win

A beautiful day of sport with the presence of Karibuni Odv

'The last will be first' in society has always worked poorly, in football never.
The last ones get relegated, the fans boo the management and shout 'sell out' at the players, the coaches get sacked. Fortunately, Real Malindi, as its name implies, is a football team that tells another reality, that of real life in the African suburbs, where even if you are not in bad shape, there is always someone 'last' than you, and it is easier to form a group, especially if there are good examples and good teachers.
In the same way, however, it is also easier to get lost, to follow the herd of those who survive on expedients, of petty criminals forced to play the game of those who exploit the desperate and cultivate them like mushrooms from the rubbish.

This week our football academy team, led by coach Badili, lost its second game in 2, conceding 2 goals without scoring any. It was the first home game, on the Furunzi plain field, the one that if it rains too much turns into a lake and the championship becomes the arboretum fishing one. There was an audience of children to watch the 'senior' team, that is, the 18-year-olds and under. They are 'our' seniors, the ones who don't participate in any championships, but who will one day be able to be part of Real Malindi, only if they apply themselves to the utmost at school, receiving scholarships from us to pay for what their parents struggle to provide, and don't always manage to do.

That's why the team of Badili, of the sports and marketing manager and secretary and former captain and older brother of all, Joseph "Maisha" Nyababwe ("Maisha" is his nickname, it means "Life" and you've said it all...) even if he loses, he has already won. That is why the moment a young boy leaves the worst temptations of the streets and shacks and enters the football school, he is no longer last in the league, that is why Karibuni ODV and not a snack or a bank, is our sponsor.
The president of the Italian voluntary organisation came to watch the game yesterday and met the boys. There is good news in sight and a lot of hope. But yes, maybe even that of winning a few games!
