Following President Kenyatta's promise to increase Kenyan employees' minimum wage by 18% and the relaunch of trade unions who would want to increase by 22% (likely to find agreement by around 20), some readers have asked us to publish Current minimum wages that must be respected.
Minimum wages in Kenya vary from area to area (geographic): higher in major cities (Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu), middle in some counties of Rift Valley and lowest in all other areas, including Malindi and Kilifi County .
Here are all the minimum wages at the current state of the regulations, according to the Office of the Labor Office dated 26 June 2015.


Unskilled employee: KES 5436.90 per month or KES 228.30 per day
Gardener, cleaner, daily askari and other generic workers: KES 5844.20 per month or 296.20 per day
Shepherd's or herd guardian or shamba: KES 6278.80 per month or 265.90 per day
Night Askari: KES 6970.40 per month or 336.30 per day
Houseboy or cook: KES 6278.50 per month or 236.30 per day
Specialist: KES 6439.50 per month or 270.00 per day
Driver: KES 7966 per month or 337.70 per day
Machine operators, tailor, shoemaker, baker: 9364.70 per month or 452.30 per day
Professional machine and skilled worker: KES 11279.50 per month or 542.00 per day
Receptionist, secretaries, storekeeper: KES 13152.50 per month or 630.50 per day
Accountants: KES 21811.10 per month or 1048.40 per day
Craftsmen: from a minimum of KES 15210 to 21,811.10 per month or from 744.10 to 1048.40 per day

For all these wages, monthly salaried workers will need to add the House Allowance (KES 1000) per month.
