Kenya, what's the weather from July to September

Information about the weather in 'our' summer months.

Kenya is one of the long-haul destinations most desired by Italians for the so-called (by us) summer months, especially August and September.
Among the various questions we receive (we always remember our "information desk" on Facebook, with the "Italians in Kenya" group and our e-mail info@malindikenya.net) one of the most recurrent concerns the weather.
Most of the tourists ready to fly to the wonders of this country will stay on the coast, mainly in Watamu, but also in Malindi and Diani. Many of them are also planning a savannah excursion. However, there are also several inquiries about "how to dress" and what to expect from the weather, for safaris in the parks of central northern Kenya, such as Maasai Mara and Amboseli.
Let's go step by step.

By mid-July, with the approximation due to the weather changes of recent years, usually the big rains of May and June taper off and the temperature tends to settle on the coast between 20 and 27 degrees, with often very pleasant and sometimes stronger winds at the sea, while from Nairobi to the highland and mountain regions it can drop as low as 5 degrees minimum and average around 16.
Some towns get wetter than others because of their geographical configuration. While elsewhere, particularly in semi-arid areas and in the Lake Turkana basin, rain has very little effect on the quality of the weather in the months that are often synonymous with vacations for us.

In seaside destinations, it may happen to rain, but it often happens in the early morning and evening and usually these are brief showers, which then (thanks precisely to the wind) give way to sunny days that are never hot and torrid, but are conducive to all kinds of activities, both beach and sports. For example, it is an ideal time for kitesurfing.
In past years, many people have enjoyed the climates of the Kenyan coast, especially coming from the unbearable Italian heat, which had reached values that can hardly be found even in the hot months at the equator.

In the Rift Valley parks and generally in the north of the country, the rains almost completely disappear, nature is more lush than ever, and temperatures drop a lot at night, so it pays to bring some heavier clothing as well, especially for the evening.
The weather conditions for hiking, however, are really optimal.

Going up in altitude, north of Nairobi, you can have very cold days and particularly cold evenings, the coldest of the year, especially until mid-August. Snow-capped Mount Kenya cools the Laikipia and Meru areas, and even in the splendor of the Aberdare forests it is quite cold.

Ultimately, as we often say, there is no real season when it is best to avoid Kenya and especially its coastal belt because of the weather.
From late July onward, especially, green light for temperatures, nature's beauty at its highest, animals roaming the savannas again, and the sea resuming to captivate its lovers with wonderful colors.
Karibu Kenya!
