Come to Kenya, maybe not...my opinion

Quarantine? Re-closing? Better wait for august

12-07-2020 by Freddie del Curatolo

"What do I do, do I book this ticket or not?"
Many people have been asking me this for days: friends, readers, regular visitors from Kenya and tourists (or even experienced travelers) at the African baptism.
The first thing that comes to my mind (maybe not beautiful) is a verse of "Sono solo canzonette" by Edoardo Bennato: "I don't have any answers, I only do rock and roll... if it suits you, well... I can't do more than that".
But giving information about this place and consequently also its accessibility is my job. A job that doesn't pay enough, but it's also the only one I can maybe do.
Yet in this confusion I don't feel like advising any of you to buy a ticket to Nairobi and Mombasa from August 2.
I would do it, maybe, if I was sure that every airline was ready to compensate you right away, maybe even with an apology card and flowers for your wife or chocolate for the children.
Instead, you know how these companies, reduced to the collapse of competitiveness, low-cost, astral conjunctures and grasshoppers, think. The pandemic is giving them the thumbs-up and who knows how they will recover. Because flying and flying is no joke, unlike managing certain barrels of fake news and fools.
But I would do it even if I glimpsed a glimmer of consistency in those who administer: both in Europe and here in our country. Then I realise that my standing for a moment as technical commissioner is the usual act of presumption to be frustrated. We are not gaining a fag, there are many of us on the verge of bankruptcy and we vent to those who change their decisions every day.
So in the end my line goes back to being the one I wrote a couple of months ago in an editorial entitled "And now for Kenya a very last minute August" (http://malindikenya.net/it/articoli/notizie/editoriali/e-ora-per-il-kenya-un-agosto--very-last-minute-.html) and the advice I can give you is: if you really want to come to Kenya, wait until August 1st to book, hoping that there is a cheap flight ready to take you there. Otherwise, hopefully we'll see each other again later on, so who has the "Africa sickness" can't do without it, who has business in progress or emergencies will surely find a special flight with quarantine at home, who has a soul mate or will find it or it means that it wasn't worth it and who really wanted to come for the first time in August to Watamu or Masai Mara and had already booked for six months ... will it bring bad luck? (I'm joking, of course, otherwise who will hear them howling the keyboard licaoni?).
