In the enchantment of Diani, the main destination on the south Kenyan coast, Italian food and wine is enriched by a high-class 'maison' for those who love refined cuisine with an Italian imprint but with an international gourmand touch, and exclusive settings with attention to the smallest details.
Its name is 'Casamia', the new restaurant and lounge bar opened on the resort's main street, just a few dozen metres from the Indian Ocean, not far from the main resorts and services, but at the same time quiet and peaceful.
The ambience is decidedly cosy right from the large and secure car park. Entering Casamia, one is immersed in a fabulous garden and in the perfectionism of a structure that combines the African conception of spaces with the elegance of the best retreats in Central Italy.
The eco-sustainability of the restaurant and the use of biodegradable materials, such as the chairs, which are made of 100% recycled materials, are worth noting. The underground stone wine cellar, with floor-to-ceiling windows, is alone worth a visit.
But there are so many little things to get lost in at 'Casamia': first, guests can choose from a variety of seating options, from tables under the gazebo in the garden to indoor tables.
They can start the evening with an authentic Italian aperitif in the side lounge sofas before dinner, or even just enjoy happy hour from 5 to 7.30 p.m. The excellent waiter and barman service, coordinated by an experienced restaurant manager, takes place to the notes of jazz music and relaxing, never intrusive sounds, with live theme nights at weekends.
The restaurant's atmosphere, calm but at the same time enveloping, is also suitable for celebrations, parties and weddings, to be enjoyed in the spacious and varied settings.
Talking about the culinary proposal, coordinated by an Italian chef and a high-level local staff, there is no shortage of fresh fish with crudités and exclusive recipes but also with classic dishes that recall the Mediterranean tradition, such as the 'Fish soup with garlic crostone' that combines the red taste of cacciucco and bouillabaisse with the delicacy of Indian ocean shellfish or the mixed seafood fry with crispy vegetables.
There is care and research also in the meat (with the beef arrosticini, for example, or the galletto alla diavola and lamb chops allo scottadito) and a good choice for vegetarians, vegans and coeliacs.
Always leave room for desserts (tiramisu exceptional with 'original' mascarpone).
Speaking of aperitifs, with a choice of at least twenty cocktails and long drinks, from the classic spritz to 'frozen' drinks, from Harry's Bar to Havana, the choice of whites, reds and sparkling wines is also exhaustive.
We of the Italians in Kenya portal have visited "Casamia" and we could tell you even more about what we tasted and how we were delighted, about the details and nuances, about the international clientele that knows how to appreciate Italian excellence.
But we want to leave those who pass by Diani with a bit of a surprise effect, because 'Casamia' is definitely an exclusive experience to try.
The restaurant is open for both lunch and dinner, every day from 12 noon to 1 am.
