Four young Sicilian tourists were victims of a road accident, fortunately without serious consequences, while they were on their way to Nakuru National Park with a safari agency from Watamu.
Their condition is not reported to be serious, but all four are currently being treated by a medical team at the Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi. Two of them reportedly sustained several fractures and are under observation, awaiting the go-ahead for repatriation to Italy, which could take place in a few days, barring complications. For the other two, the injuries are much lighter, as well as for the driver of the safari jeep and the guide, a local girl. The vehicle reportedly ran off the road near Nakuru. The Italian Embassy in Kenya was quick to assist their compatriots and notify their families in Italy.
The young people, two men and two women from the province of Enna, according to Malindikenya.net, used to spend their holidays in Watamu, in a private house.
In recent days, some roads in the Rift Valley have come under fire for the poor condition of the asphalt. Yesterday on the Narok-Mahi Mahiu road leading to the Maasai Mara, residents staged a protest that blocked traffic for hours, including that of many safari vehicles taking tourists to the national reserve.
