A head-on collision on the stretch of road between Mombasa and Malindi, involving a lorry and the driver of the transfer vehicle, who was unable to avoid the impact.
This is how the life of an Italian tourist, Sidney Serpetri, a 52-year-old woman from Florence, came to a tragic end. According to initial reports from Malindikenya.net, the woman was travelling in the car with her husband and son, who are currently being treated in hospital in Mombasa, though their conditions are not believed to be serious.
Unfortunately, things fared worse for the driver of the vehicle carrying the Italian tourists to Malindi; like the woman, he was also killed in the collision with the lorry travelling in the opposite direction.
This was not the woman’s first holiday in Kenya, and from what has been gathered, she was on her way to visit relatives in the tourist town.
The Italian Embassy in Nairobi took immediate action to provide all necessary assistance and is monitoring the situation, liaising with the family and the hospital where the two Italian nationals are being treated.
Last April, in Diani, a motorbike accident claimed the life of Stefano Quadrelli, a 63-year-old man from Rimini, whilst the year before, also in Diani, two other tourists – Marco Curcio from Milan and Karen Demozzi from Valtellina – had died.
