Grisly accident along Malindi-Mombasa in Gede

At least ten casualties reported on the spot

Once again the roads in Kenya and the reckless driving of local bus drivers are proving fatal for the poor people and pose a serious threat to the road system. A frightening accident occurred at dawn today not far from Gede, on the Malindi-Mombasa road before the junction to Watamu.
A bus of the "Muhsin" line coming from Mombasa collided head-on with the "Sabaki Shuttle" coming from the north (Marereni, according to initial information from witnesses).
The accident seems to have been caused by reckless overtaking by the two buses at the same time, which inevitably led to a collision. The larger of the two buses went sideways after hitting the smaller one.
Ambulance and Red Cross personnel were the first to intervene to extract the people from the wreckage and provide assistance to those thrown out of their cabs. In the meantime, as is always the case, a huge crowd gathered at the scene of the accident, before the arrival of the police moved them a few metres away from the scene of the crime.
