Malindi celebrate 50 years of San Marco launch

April 26th dinner with veterans of the Space Center

22-04-2017 by redazione

An anniversary that can not go unnoticed, not only in Malindi and Kenya but throughout Italy.
On Wednesday, April 26, the fiftieth anniversary of the first launch of an Italian satellite from the San Marco space station of Ngomeni falls.
The "San Marco 2" was launched by the team of Professor Luigi Broglio, creator of the same name, on April 26, 1967, in the presence of a number of his fellow technicians.
Among them was Franco Esposito, who still lives in Malindi (read here his story), where other deacons of the space center still live, such as Elio Altomare, Vincenzo Caporossi and Luigi Riccardi, while Dino Lesa for a few months is Returned to live in Italy after half a century of Kenya. Between the age of twenty or so, Cleto Ancona (also of whom we have already spoken here) is also to be mentioned.
Hundreds of engineers, technicians and skilled workers need to be added to them
Wednesday evening at the Malindi's People Restaurant, the veterans we mentioned will be present with their consorts, but there will be (an unofficial, but festive and celebratory presence) also many current employees of the Space Center Luigi Broglio.
The initiative was organized by malindikenya.net and is against Kenyan at the official celebration held in Rome, starting on the morning of April 26, at the University of Wisdom. During the Italian day there will be meetings, exhibitions and re-enactments.
But even in the evening of Malindi (dinner at Kshs. 1500 drinks excluded, with pig and baked fish and other specialties) there will be no surprises.
Obviously the entrance is also open to those who would like to spend an evening in the company of people who have made the history of Malindi Italian and have contributed to bringing the name of the San Marco base very high internationally.
