There is mystery surrounding the death of a French tourist in Diani, one of Kenya's popular coastal resorts. The 64-year-old man, according to initial police reconstructions, was found dead on Saturday inside the house in the name of his girlfriend, who noticed him returning from her home in Meru County on the slopes of Mount Kenya.

The woman, according to what she told investigators, left her estranged companion, taking advantage of her daughter's school holidays, accompanying her to her family in Meru.
On her return, she allegedly found the house door locked on the inside and after calling her friend and getting no answer, she managed to open the door anyway.

As soon as she entered, the foul smell of a death that had therefore occurred a few days earlier was present throughout the house and in the bedroom lay the decomposing body of the Frenchman.
The police, who arrived on the scene, cordoned off the house and collected the fingerprints present, in order to start the investigation. According to Kenyans and other media, preliminary investigations revealed that the foreigner had no history of previous illnesses and that no visible wounds or injuries were present on what remained of his body.

From the man's papers, it was learnt that he had arrived in Kenya on 14 September and was due to return home on 10 December.
It will now be the autopsy on the 64-year-old's body that will tell more about the cause of death, which may or may not be natural.
