NASA attempt to postpone election failed

Court rejects objection on possible manual backup

21-07-2017 by redazione

This could be the latest attempt by the NASA opposition alliance to postpone national elections in Kenya, set for August 8th, and it failed.
The faction headed by Raila Odinga, who has been gaining approval over the past few weeks after being long gone for polls, has asked for the unconstitutionality of the possible manual vote scrutiny in case of malfunction of the electronic system.
The Nairobi High Court has been peremptory: the regulation admits that in the event of electronic system fugue, the count of votes may be conducted manually. This operation, according to Odinga and his allies, could result in manipulations by the Uhuru Kenyatta party.
In recent days, the opposition had already received a "no" from the Court after filing a complaint alleging alleged government conflicts of interest in the electoral rolls, entrusted to a Dubai company.
