Red meat in Kenya is highly contaminated

Toxicity by plastic, ban of bags will reduce it

13-07-2017 by redazione

Sixty percent of red meat raised in Kenya and brought to the slaughterhouses is highly contaminated due to food ingested by cattle, especially plastic.
This is revealed by a survey carried out in Nairobi and nearby slaughterhouses on behalf of the Livestock Research Institute.
Contamination mainly affects levels beyond the average toxicity of plastics, which in the Nairobi public market have reached truly worrying levels.
But most of the breeders carry the herds to eat where the grass blends with the dumps on the open, and unfortunately also on the coast begin to see these phenomena.
A little better in the Rift Valley and in high production areas, such as Eldoret and Kakamega, where high values were found in three cattle every ten examined.
The LRI researcher, Maurice Kamani, told The National newspaper that the situation will improve with the ban on plastic bags.
