The one living tomorrow for Kenya

Toughts and choices of italians in 2021

10-01-2021 by un lettore

First of all, I have no intention of making any vaccines.
Let me be clear, I am not a denier, nor do I claim to know everything.
I have simply never had a flu vaccine or any other.
I chose Malindi and not Zanzibar for my first African holiday in 1996 precisely because I had to have my Yellow Fever shot in Tanzania.
Secondly, I don't want to wait for bad luck to call.
There is much more risk here in Italy than in Kenya, I am almost certain of that.
I believe that the world in 2020 has sent us a fundamental and very clear piece of information: we are all precarious and at the mercy of fate.
If my destiny is to leave my pens in Africa, I will be like the great adventurers of the past: like Robert Redford in the famous film.
While I am telling you this it is normal that I am touching my zebedee, but every year I have been coming back to Malindi for twenty-four years and this time will not be an exception, red or yellow zones, third waves or Scottish variants of the ca...so.
On the contrary, it is better to leave as soon as possible in order to avoid that they invent things of the type "Health Passport", which then they will not see me anymore for sure.
It also comforts me to know that I won't be the only one there and that many people have already left with tourist visas. Even this thing about respecting the decisions of the Government makes me laugh: we are full of big and small evaders who then respect a postilla of the DPCM.
Give me a break!
At the airport, the authorities in charge are the first not to check whether you meet the requirements, even now they offer you the form to make a self-certification that you are going abroad at your own risk. The real danger will be when you come back.
In this period I have read a lot, I have informed myself and I have heard some friends in Malindi: the Covid-19 in Kenya was not as terrible as people thought, this is under everyone's eyes.
Tanzania, for example, has never forced its people to wear masks or keep social distances. Life goes on as usual, the only difference being that the President, who is actually a dictator but has balls, has renounced international aid and thrown out the WHO.
The poor people continue to die of malaria and pneumonia as they do every year, but the tourists who arrive, because they can arrive if they want without any problems, live in peace.
They tell me that since August charters have been arriving in Zanzibar from Russia and no one has ever fallen ill.
Is this true?
In the meantime, from my local acquaintances of boys and girls, my driver and my pseudo-girlfriend, I have not yet heard of a relative or friend who died of Covid-19.
There are those who have never gone to Kenya because they are afraid of malaria, snakes, scorpions.
If anything, I understand them, but those who know that country and its risks and are ready to face them, with care, I think they can leave tomorrow.
As I am about to do.
