A happy goats house in Kenya, in memory of Agitu

Italian onlus Karibuni honour the killed ethiopian "sheperdess"

03-01-2021 by Leni Frau

A "Casa delle Capre Felici" (House of Happy Goats) in Kenya, in memory of Agitu Idea Gudeta, the "shepherdess" who fled Ethiopia and saved the goats of Trentino and was barbarously killed a few days ago by one of her employees, who was also African.
The Italian non-profit organisation Karibuni, in the Malindi hinterland, has dedicated a sheep farm to the woman who was a symbol of successful integration and love for sustainability in a land that was foreign to her but which had immediately adopted her.
For years we too have been breeding goats," explains Karibuni's president, Gianfranco Ranieri, "and we give work and food to young and old through their sale. Two years ago, our members Laura and Walter from Milan decided to support the construction of a large stable in Langobaya, which will be able to house up to 300 goats and help dozens of people. Now with Walter and Laura we thought that we would not let Agitu forget, the big stable would be named after her, and it would be called 'The House of Happy Goats'. Those who come to visit us when they read the sign will know that an African dream did not die in Italy, but has returned to Africa to live again in Kenya, where Italians have built a large stable for happy goats... Agitu's dream continues.
