CLASSICAL MUSIC
16-02-2025 by Michele Senici
An exciting double bill of classical music on the Kenyan coast, by the internationally renowned mandolinist Dorina Frati, accompanied by maestro Daniele Roi.
Last Thursday, in the garden of the Alliance Française in Mombasa, Nyali, the first of two concerts for mandolin and piano was held, organised by the Italian Cultural Institute of Nairobi, thanks to the interest and support of the director Elena Gallenca.
Dorina Frati and Daniele Roi, performed a refined repertoire that enchanted the audience.
The event was very well received, attracting around 180 spectators, including a significant number of young Kenyans, some of whom were music students. The audience, which also included some representatives of the Italian and French communities, showed great enthusiasm, with many spectators expressing their surprise and appreciation for the mandolin, an instrument that is little known in Kenya but very charming.
The evening's programme included pieces by Antonio Vivaldi, Raffaele La Ragione Romaniello and Ludwig van Beethoven, offering the audience a musical journey through the Baroque and Classical periods. Each performance highlighted the extraordinary versatility of the mandolinist, with the piano creating a perfect balance of sound, enhancing the beauty of the compositions.
The following day, the two artists performed in an exclusive concert in Diani, hosted under the enchanting dome of the Swahili Beach Resort. Here too, the success was remarkable, with about 70 spectators who had the opportunity to attend a unique performance in an intimate and evocative atmosphere. These kinds of events represent an important moment of cultural exchange between Italy and Kenya, demonstrating once again how music is a universal language capable of bringing together people from different cultures.
