ETA Kenya, boom of applications: issuance times are getting longer

Why it is better to do it as soon as possible

14-11-2024 by redazione

Kenya has literally been taken by storm with bookings for the Christmas and New Year holidays: the certainty comes from the clogging up of the site that issues electronic travel authorisations (eTA), which since last January have replaced the online visa that is now issued directly in the passport on arrival (while for the 3-month extension it will be necessary to go back to the online file).
The most obvious effect is that it has lengthened the time it takes to issue the eTA, which until a few weeks ago could be obtained in just 24 hours. Now, however, as insiders from agencies in Kenya and also our readers tell us, the authorisation can take even longer than 72 hours. So for those who already have their ticket in hand or are planning to leave before the end of 2024, the advice is to prepare the application and pay the €30 eTA, before you have to wait too long at the last minute.
For example, it has been proven that by applying for the eTA on a Friday and paying for it, the confirmation email will probably not reach the traveller until the following Tuesday.
Another reason why it is advisable to anticipate the timing of sending the application (which cannot be submitted before three months after departure for Kenya), is that rumours are beginning to circulate about a possible increase in fees connected with the authorisation.
