ITALIAN EVENING

Oiive Oil, opera and cuisine: the best of Italy in Nairobi

ArteOlio evening with singers Mattioli and Barbolini at La Terrazza

10-01-2024 by Freddie del Curatolo

There are many ways to promote Italian products abroad and just as many can be invented, especially in Kenya, which is always fertile ground for creativity as well as development and market opportunities.
Certainly the way chosen by the Italian importer Vinyasa and the La Terrazza restaurant in Nairobi, during a splendid evening that we had the pleasure of attending, is one of the most appropriate for us and one that makes us pleasantly proud to be Italian.

To present to the Kenyans in the capital an Italian excellence of extra virgin olive oil, that of the Tuscan company ArteOlio, the happy union between importers and restaurateurs staged an event that combined tasting, with one of the world's leading oil experts, Ligurian Aldo Mazzini, official taster for the European Union and author of numerous oil publications, and opera music, with tenors Claudio Mattioli and Max Barbolini, who grew up in the Modenese school of Luciano Pavarotti.

Between tastings of oil and those of dishes from Muriel and Stefano's restaurant, chosen from among the dishes that would best enhance the use of ArteOlio, the two singers and musicians, accompanying themselves on the accordion, proposed a roundup of famous arias from our operatic tradition, some immortal Neapolitan songs, as well as pieces by Bocelli and other modern performers.

Mattioli and Barbolini are also two excellent entertainers, and the Terrazza's international audience (not only Kenyans and Italians, but also French, Indians and other nationalities) showed their appreciation and, above all, realised once again that Italian taste, quality and pleasure for beautiful (and good) things embrace many spheres and each brings with it values, traditions, culture and sharing.

An evening such as the one at the Terrace should be an example for those who want to promote the Italian spirit and its best, everywhere in Kenya. The Italian Ambassador Roberto Natali, who gladly attended the evening, was also of this opinion.
