HAPPY NEW YEAR
01-01-2024 by Freddie del Curatolo
We want to say it for the last time, somewhat as an exorcism and to throw it back at us, like salt when spilled: 2023 has been a heavy year.
A boulder in your throat and on your heart, when you think that there are still two wars going on that are claiming lives every day and that we have become so accustomed to them that one has overshadowed the other.
You know what it is, in my opinion?
That in the one between Russia and Ukraine it was easy to cheer, it's a bit like when the Italian national team plays: yes, there are the dissidents, the unpatriotic, those who cheer against because they hate football, those who, because they hate the national anthem, care about Senegal or Slovakia. But have you heard Slovakia's anthem? It sucks, it's worse than Brothers of Italy and at the end it doesn't even say "Yes!".
Anyway, wars seen from the couch. Russia-Ukraine, almost all with Ukraine.
Israel-Palestine is the real divisive war, creating the factions, the stances, the bickering, the shooting.
The shootings...while people die one stands here taking sides, hoping that one will annihilate the other and blood will flow where a poor Christ 2024 years ago lost it from his wrists, ankles and forehead, dying on a cross.
Heavy, very heavy.
Like the feminicides, every day...yes 2023 was the year of the consecration of life as a f.....g Netflix series, the kind that the few funny things that happen go by fast between scares, like a hunky actor's quip to the woman he's going to conquer.
Shall we talk about the economy? Of the environment? About politics?
No, we can not talk about that and go and catch up on the speeches from when we sent to hell 2022.
From this point of view, those are certainties that in the end, in the face of all the uncontrollable and terrible events, the ever lowering instincts and the burial of decency in all its aspects, almost give us comfort.
How many years has it been since we said: ah, this year I really didn't have to think about money... or, ah, but this year it must be said that the weather was fabulous, it was just the right amount of hot in the summer and cool in the evening, it rained when it was supposed to rain, there was even snow in the mountains for skiing... politics... no, politics, no.
