After almost a week Kenya returns to record a new death for Covid-19.
He does so the very next day when President Kenyatta, probably also comforted by the data his Ministry of Health brings him, announced to the country that soon the county lockdown and curfew restrictions will be lifted.
As for the "Corona" bulletin of the last 24 hours, the numbers of Sunday, May 24th speak of 22 people who tested positive for tampons, which were 1214, a sharp drop compared to 2-3 thousand per day in the last week.
The Administrative Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Rashid Abdi Aman, in front of Afya House, specified that the cases of the last day, as often happens, were mostly reported in Nairobi (10) and Mombasa (9). In the counties of Kwale, Nakuru and Taita Taveta, a positivity each was found.
There were 3 patients healed and discharged nationwide yesterday.
Aman thanked the citizens who are making great sacrifices to comply as much as possible with the government's directives and who, thanks to the use of masks and especially the respect of social distances, keep the cases under the threshold of concern, even if the battle against the pandemic is far from being won.
"I want to reiterate the importance of targeted tampons . added Abdi Aman - Their purpose is to identify as soon as possible who is most likely to be infected among us. If we do not know where the virus is, it will be difficult to treat it. There is no charge for those who are found positive because the costs will be borne by the Government.
A problem brought to light by the Ministry of Health in recent days concerns too many patients who give the wrong details (contacts and phone numbers) for their traceability and that of their relatives and contacts, thus frustrating efforts to contain the spread of the virus as well as putting the families of those who tested positive at risk. Omertà, especially in this case, does not help at all, but the deception is even worse because it also wastes time and diverts healthcare workers where they should not.
Abdi Aman also congratulated Health Director General Patrick Amoth, who, thanks in part to his good work since the beginning of the Covid-19 emergency in Kenya, has been appointed Vice-President of the Executive Committee of the World Health Organization (WHO) for a 2-year term.
