Kenya has reached 3 000 deaths from Covid-19 since the start of the pandemic, or 14 months ago. In the last 24 hours, it has recorded 25 deaths, eight of which occurred on different dates in the last month, and 17 of which are deaths reported after audits of facility records. The total number of deaths thus rises to 3,001, which puts it in sixth place among African countries with the most victims, although it should be noted that four of them are from the Mediterranean region (Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia and Egypt) and the first is South Africa, the other extreme. Among the sub-Saharan countries, only Ethiopia had more deaths (3,694).
With 267 new positive cases out of 4,436 swabs analysed, the positivity rate in the last 24 hours is 6%.
The total number of infected rose to 165,379, making Kenya the 80th most infected country out of 222.
Recoveries also continue: 57 people have recovered from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, 23 from various health facilities across the country and 34 from home treatment and isolation. Total recoveries now stand at 113,489, of which 82,484 from home treatment and isolation, and 31,005 from various health facilities. 1,030 patients are still in various health facilities in the country while 4,813 are in isolation and home care. 117 are in the intensive care unit 23 of whom are on ventilator support. 73 patients are on supplementary oxygen and 21 are under observation.
So far, 933,826 people have been vaccinated against the virus.
