Covid-19 Kenya: numbers bring optimism

Third day with percentage around 10

30-04-2021 by redazione

Third day with the percentage of cases per swab around 10 in Kenya.
The figure is positive and the closure of the air borders with India, with the last returns of Kenyan citizens set for today, with mandatory negative swab and quarantine, adds optimism to a picture of general improvement in the country's health structures.
Kenya has registered 495 new cases of Covid-19, out of a sample of 4,929 tested in the last 24 hours, with 482 positive citizens and 13 foreigners.
Health Minister Mutahi Kagwe said 242 patients have recovered from the disease, 191 of them were in home care and 51 admitted to various health facilities. The total number of recoveries is now 108,124, of which 78,691 were from home care and isolation, and 29,433 from hospitals.
There are 19 reported deaths, but none of these are recent. Every day for the last few weeks, in fact, deaths have been reported in the last month or emerged from checks on the registers of individual hospitals. In any case, the total number of deaths from Covid-19 in Kenya has risen to 2,707.
It is a fact, however, that intensive care units continue to empty: there are now 191 patients in special units, 31 of whom are on ventilatory support and 129 on supplementary oxygen, while 31 patients are under observation.
A total of 1,250 patients are currently hospitalised in various health facilities across the country, while 6,822 patients are in isolation and home care.
Regarding vaccines, the number of citizens and residents who have received their first dose of AstraZeneca rises to 865,897. Of these, 502,893 are aged 58 or over or tour operators, health workers 156,344, teachers 134,083 and security officers 72,581.
The effects of the scandal involving the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority, a government agency that was supposed to oversee the distribution of Covid-19 emergency medical supplies, should be noted. Minister Kagwe revoked the appointments of four senior managers with immediate effect and replaced them with others.
