The average number of official cases of Covid-19 in Kenya over the past week has been 30 deaths a day, but many more are waiting to be recorded and even more are those that are not recorded because they are only recorded after death and after private burial.
The situation remains serious, but not worrying, if anything it is the slow vaccination process in the country that is now causing concern.
On Wednesday, August 18, 400,000 vaccines were distributed in the various counties, but it is certainly not enough, because the administration proceeds at a very low rate and awareness and "invitation" to vaccinate on the media and social targeted campaigns by institutions, not even to talk about it. In the last 24 hours the new cases have been 1286 out of 8310 swabs, with a percentage always very high: 15.5%. There were 32 deaths, bringing the total deaths from covid-19 to 4467.
Nairobi always takes a substantial slice of the positives but this time only 258 cases in the capital and the rest distributed in 43 counties out of 47.
In the meantime another 1942 patients have recovered, while 2060 are still hospitalized, and 8769 are positive in treatment or observation in isolation at home. 157 are in intensive care, while 818 others are still on oxygen therapy.
The percentage of fully vaccinated adults rose by 0.1% to 2.9% overall.
