Official numbers that, as always, give us an indication and the official nature of the situation but certainly do not photograph the real situation of the Covid-19 emergency in Kenya.
Kenya recorded 961 new cases of Covid-19 after 7,780 individuals were tested for the virus in the last 24 hours. The proportion has risen slightly to 12.3%.
Health Minister Mutahi Kagwe said there have been 10 deaths in the last 24 hours, while 854 patients have been declared cured and discharged, 686 from the home care programme and 168 have been discharged from various hospitals. The total number of admissions is now 56,464. The number of deaths rises to 1,484.
As for the sick, 74 patients are in intensive care (ICU), 33 of whom are in ventilatory support and 40 in supplementary oxygen, 61 of whom are in general wards. 16 are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).
The distribution of cases in the country as of Wednesday 3 December is as follows: Nairobi 203, Nakuru 118, Kilifi 83, Kirinyaga 71, Kericho 57, Uasin Gishu 52, Mombasa 41, Embu 41, Busia 40, Nyandarua 42, Kiambu 23, Kisumu 22, Isiolo 21 and Nyeri 18, Nandi 16, Murang'a 14, Homa Bay 13, Kakamega 12, Nyamira 9, Turkana 8, Kajiado and Trans Nzoia 7, Samburu, Vihiga and Siaya 6, Baringo 5, Taita Taveta and Kisii 5, Machakos and West Pokot 4, Meru, Mandera, Laikipia and Elgeyo Marakwet 2, while Bomet, Garissa, Bungoma, Marsabit and Kitui each have one case.
