Malindi second hotspot after Nairobi in last tests

75 cases but percentage is still under 10

16-12-2020 by redazione

Less than five thousand swabs in Kenya, in the capital Nairobi 118 cases and in Malindi, the second largest town in Kenya with the most positives, there are 75 cases. Mombasa, which is 12 times bigger than Malindi, follows with 66 cases.
In the face of these numbers we, as well as being concerned (because it is a fact that the positives in the territory, according to sources of the Kenya Medical Research Centre, are about 10% of the total) continue to wonder why they are not transmitted, along with the national numbers of the last 24 hours, also
the number of swabs taken in each individual county.
In any case, on Tuesday 15 December, Kenya recorded 404 positive cases of Covid-19 in the previous 24 hours out of 4878 swabs tested. This brings the country's total to 92,459 cases.
The percentage of positives per swab remains below 10% and drops further, to 8.2%.
Unfortunately, 11 patients succumbed to the disease, bringing the total number of deaths to 1,604.
At the same time, 527 patients recovered with 408 discharged from the home care programme and 119 from hospital facilities across the country, bringing the total number of recoveries to 73,979.
Currently, there are 871 patients in various health facilities across the country and 6,284 in isolation and home care.
46 patients are in intensive care units (ICU), 23 of whom are on ventilatory support and 17 on supplementary oxygen. 6 are in observation.
Another 35 in general wards and 11 are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).
As mentioned Nairobi leads in new cases with 118 positives, Kilifi County has 110 (in addition to the 75 already reported from Malindi, 17 come from Kilifi North which includes Watamu, 11 from Kaloleni and 7 from Magarini).
They are followed by Mombasa 66, Makueni 26, Nakuru 23, Kiambu 12, Kisumu 11, Turkana 9, Kwale and Nyeri 5, Siaya and Kajiado 4, Murang'a 3, Machakos 2, Meru, Kakamega, Kericho, Kirinyaga, Marsabit and Lamu 1.
