Covid-19, cases increase in Kilifi County

More of half positives of last 24 hrs are in the coast

17-07-2021 by redazione

For the first time since the start of the pandemic, Kilifi County is the first county to report new Covid-19 positive cases.
In the last 24 hours, just under a third of the total number of cases reported is 224 out of Kenya's 692.
These are not alarming numbers in general nor particularly reliable, but they certainly ring alarm bells for coastal destinations, in view of the arrival of tourists from Nairobi and other parts of Kenya, plus a few foreigners (remember that 54 states in the world have not yet reopened to tourism to Kenya, including Italy, and 29 others strongly advise against it).
The percentage of cases by swab is just over 10%, as confirmed in a statement on Friday 16 July by Health Minister Mutahi Kagwe.
Of the new cases, 24 are foreign nationals and many of them are distributed between Malindi, Watamu and Kilifi.
After Kilifi County, Nairobi is second with 183 cases, followed by Mombasa 52, Uasin Gishu 36, Nakuru 32, Kiambu 31, Lamu 14, Muranga 13, Nandi 13, Machakos 11, Tana River 10, Kisumu 7, Kirinyaga 7, Nyeri and Taita Taveta 6 cases each, Kajiado, Kisii and Siaya 5 cases each, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Busia, Narok and Nyandarua 3 cases each, Embu, Homa Bay, Kakamega, Kitui, Meru and Wajir 2 cases each. West Pokot, Garissa, Vihiga, Kwale and Mandera one case each.
The death toll from Covid-19 in Kenya has reached 3,754 after eight patients died in the last 24 hours.
The total recovery so far is 180,543 after 123 patients recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours, 82 of them from the home and isolation treatment programme, while 41 are from various health facilities in the country.
Another 1,108 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities across the country, 124 are in intensive care, 38 of them with ventilatory support and 60 with supplementary oxygen. Twenty-six patients are under observation, while 4,352 patients are in isolation and home care.
A further 219 patients are separately on supplementary oxygen, of whom 201 are on general wards and 18 in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).
As of 16 July 2021, Kenya has administered 1,607,982 vaccines across the country. Only 537,000 of them have received the second dose. The percentage of fully vaccinated adults is 2.0%.
