There are 172 cases of Covid-19 virus positivity in Kenya, after Kenyan Health Minister Mutahi Kagwe announced today that 14 more were infected after 696 people had been tested in the last 24 hours. Of the 14 positive 12 are Kenyan citizens and two are foreign residents.
"Four of these cases have a recent history of travel from Tanzania, South Africa, the United Arab Emirates and the United States," the Minister revealed, "half of them reside in Nairobi and four come from our quarantine facilities, while ten have been identified thanks to swabs carried out by our research team.
The other seven come from Mombasa, one from Machakos, one from Kisii, one from Kiambu and two from Mandera.
Mutahi also said that three patients were released from various hospitals after the last swab proved negative. No deaths, however, after two more deaths were recorded yesterday, bringing the total to six.
In any case, the Minister of Health reiterated that the government will not hesitate to take even heavier measures in the coming days to curb the spread of the contagious and fatal disease.
Meanwhile, after one death in Mombasa affected a well-known golfer, Kagwe ordered the closure of all golf courses and country clubs in the country with immediate effect.
He also added all medical personnel, both in quarantine facilities and hospitals, will be swabbed in these days.
