Lockdown, Kenya is yet to decide

President Kenyatta will speak this week

08-12-2020 by redazione

There is still uncertainty in the ranks of the Kenyan government to try to contain the virus contagion during the holidays, starting next weekend which coincides with Jamhuri Day.
No decisions have come out of yesterday's meeting and President Kenyatta has reserved the right to speak to the Nation in the next few days, presumably before Thursday, even if some people are thinking of making an official announcement on Saturday 12th, right at the same time as the country's Independence celebrations. In the meeting of the National Committee for Health Emergency (NERC) the two factions in the field have expressed themselves: the one composed by the County Governors, firm on their request made by the Prime Minister Oparanya, who asks on behalf of his colleagues the closing of the movements between counties before and during the holidays to avoid the outflow of citizens from the cities to their native villages to meet with their relatives, and that of part of the health workers who would like to move back the beginning of the curfew and bring it back, only for these weeks, at 7 pm.
In the end it is likely that we will opt for a half solution, which will satisfy (or dissatisfied, Italian style...) all or almost all of them. Then lockdown of seven or eight Counties and curfew at 9pm.
But these are just suppositions, only the President will be able to confirm or deny it in a few days.
In the meantime, the Ministry of Health has communicated data that shows the lack of swabs and tight control actions, with 199 cases out of just 2416 swabs carried out, a percentage that is still under 10%, and even with these derisory numbers it is a positive result. To get an idea of how little the country is under control, after almost ten months of the pandemic, only now we are about to reach one million tampons, or 2% of the population.
There are five new deaths and 435 healings. There are about 200 serious cases in the country's hospitals.
