An in-flight collision between two planes that had just taken off from Nairobi's Wilson Airport resulted this morning in two deaths and a big scare for 39 tourists and residents heading to the tourist resort of Diani on the 9.45am Safarilink Aviation flight.
In the collision between Safarilink's Dash 8 scheduled flight and a small Cessna belonging to a local flight school, the trainer pilot and one of his students died, the Kenyan Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) confirmed, adding that an investigation into the incident has already been launched.
Unhurt, however, the 44 passengers on board the aircraft, including the crew, according to the airline.
"Safarilink Aviation wishes to report that this morning (Tuesday) at 9:45am local time our flight number 053 with 39 passengers and five crew members on board, bound for Diani, experienced a loud roar immediately after take-off," the company said. "The crew decided to immediately return to Nairobi-Wilson Airport for further inspection and assessment and landed safely. No casualties were reported." The company wrote on its X profile.
