Saturday 13th July the fourth Malindi Clean Up

Action and sensibilization from Muyeye to Hospital

10-07-2019 by Malindi Green and Blue

Next Saturday, July 13, will be the fourth monthly day of cleaning and awareness raising on the collection of waste "Malindi Clean Up Day".
The monthly event, now at its fourth appointment, is organized by the Progress Welfare Association Malindi, which brings together members of civil society, local associations, youth and employees of the city municipality. Many local entrepreneurs and representatives of the tourism sector have joined this campaign that aims to instill in the citizens the culture of separate collection and recycling, but has as its first step to make Malindi cleaner, as it was fifteen years ago when it was declared the cleanest town in Kenya.
The idea, through collaboration in the collection of waste and the motto "our city, our responsibility", is to activate separate collection and involve even the less well-off, giving them the opportunity to turn waste into income, as already happens in Watamu with hard plastic that is chopped and sold in Mombasa to a company that reuses it to make its own trash cans to collect it. A cycle that can be easily activated also in Malindi, with the purchase of tritaplastic machines.
There are many initiatives in the field and many companies that have expressed their interest in this program implemented since last April. Obviously, anyone is asked to participate, to demonstrate the interest of citizens in caring for the environment and for their own town, beyond easy and sterile complaints or waiting for someone else to move.
Appointment Saturday morning, July 13 at 8 in front of the Pentagon Guest House in Muyeye (a few meters after the matatu station and the new market), the cleaning will take participants to the subdistrict hospital, where there will be the collection point and we will all stop together.
