MANDATORY FOR TOURISTS BEFORE BOARDING

30-12-2020 by redazione

It's official, from 1 January 2021 only the online visa will be valid to enter in Kenya.
The Evisa system in Kenya was launched five years ago but until now every year the Immigration Office has allowed citizens of 140 countries to still have the choice of filling in the entry acceptance form directly on arrival at the international airports of Nairobi and Mombasa or at the port of the coastal city, for those arriving by cruise ship.
However, from 1 January 2021, Kenyan entry visas will be issued exclusively electronically, with passengers required to obtain an eVisa prior to departure. The Kenya eVisa will become a mandatory entry requirement for all travellers.
The online platform allows eligible travellers to Kenya to obtain permission to enter the African state much faster and easier than applying at an embassy or consulate.
According to an official statement two days ago by Kenya's Ministry of Home Affairs, the eVisa system will be the only way to obtain a visa from 1 January 2021.
This means that all travellers who are not visa-exempt will have to apply online for a Kenya eVisa visa before boarding a flight to the country.
The Kenyan government has been focusing on the development of e-services in recent years, and at this point it seems likely that the extension of the two different systems should stop on 31 December this year. The digitisation of services, on the other hand, will increase efficiency and security, making them more easily accessible to users.
It is still to be seen whether certain categories of travellers who are not strictly tourists, such as social workers and diplomats, will need to go to the Kenyan Embassy in their own country or whether they too will be able to access the visa online.
According to media reports and statements by Alicent Odipo, Kenya's Deputy Director of Immigration: 'All passengers from countries that require a visa to enter Kenya from January 2021 must obtain an e-visa before boarding a plane'.
