An italian firm will build Kenya technologic hub

Kshs 40 billion for Konza City, the kenian "silicon valley"

05-07-2017 by redazione

The "Silicon Valley" Kenyan Konza City will be built by an Italian company.
Vicenza's Giuseppe Maltauro Construction Company has won 40 billion shillings (about 350 million euros) to build the technology city designed by former President Kibaki and wanted by current Uhuru Kenyatta leader.
The Italian company, very active in the Arab Emirates, has been selected as general contractor. You will be entrusted with the task of designing the infrastructure for the first phase of the project and procuring the necessary materials and equipment.
Giuseppe Maltauro will oversee the construction of infrastructures: roads, water pipes and sewerage of 400 acres of Konza City.
"Jobs will begin in July," said John Tanui, executive director of the Konza Technopolis Development Authority (KOTDA).
Project documents indicate 40 kilometers of total roads, parks and gardens, and modern water distribution, sewage collection and purification services. It is also expected that ICM will build a water recovery plant and a reservoir for the city.
This is a great success for Italy and its businesses, since for once the government has not relied on Chinese companies.
Three were indeed the "competitors" of the Venetian company, and all three Eastern ones: Central Electrical International; China CAMC; And Zhongmei Gibb.
Konza City is defined as a key milestone in Kenya's ambitious program of becoming the technology center of East Africa, but its construction has been delayed for years, partly due to the lack of funding.
