There are eleven new cases of coronavirus positivity in Kenya.
That brings the total number of infected to over 200, exactly 208.
This was announced this afternoon by Health Minister Mutahi Kagwe at the usual press conference outside Afya House.
In the last 24 hours, 674 tests have been carried out that gave the result just mentioned, with the addition of a new death that brings the total to nine.
All eleven positives are of Kenyan citizenship.
According to data confirmed by the Minister, more than 8000 swabs have been used in the country to date.
"We have implemented our preparation to contain the disease and we have increased our Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), for which we spent about 40 million shillings - he said - in the meantime a positive note is the recovery of another 15 people, discharged from the various health facilities where they were hospitalized, bringing the total number of discharged patients to 40".
Kagwe then provided further information about the 11 new cases, revealing that they are distributed in the following counties: Mandera (4), Mombasa (3), Nairobi (2), Nakuru (1) and Machakos (1), adding that 6 of them are male.
"I want to be very honest, going forward we will have to face challenges - concluded the Minister - for example cultural practices on how to bury the dead may not be functional to the emergency. The bodies of Covid-19 victims will be buried in a way that protects the living".
