Italian candidate for next Kilifi Governor

Franco Esposito has 55 years of living in Kenya

25-04-2022 by Freddie del Curatolo

There is an Italian man in Kenya who has not stopped dreaming of improving the places where he has lived for almost sixty years and the country of which he took the citizenship. Franco Esposito, former director of the San Marco base and the Luigi Broglio Space Center in Malindi, has decided to return to confront national politics, at the next elections on August 9, 2022.
Many will think of a white Don Quixote in black Africa fighting against hypothetical windmills that spin on the shores of the Indian Ocean.
In reality, Esposito was once again convinced by local Mijikenda, Muslim and other tribal communities in Kenya to take the field.
"I had already done so in 2007 as a parliamentary candidate for the constituency of Magarini, north of Malindi - says Esposito - the local community with a blood pact had confirmed that the color of the skin did not count. In fact I was the leader by votes, but those were the famous elections of fraud, and I was one of the victims. In 2012 it was not possible for me to participate, because in the meantime a new law had passed that allowed only those who had become Kenyans for more than ten years to present themselves, and I had to give up for a few months. In 2017 I tried again and here too I lost by a whisker, due to unclear episodes. Unfortunately, this is a very corrupt country and I would have decided to drop out if..."
If a group of politicians, activists and leaders of communities and villages that have become increasingly destitute, had not convinced him to run, this time not for the parliament of Nairobi, but as Governor of Kilifi County.
"I am an independent candidate - explains the Italian engineer - but I am part of the coalition that supports the current government and the candidate Raila Odinga. I have on my side many people who believe in my moral integrity and honesty. First of all, if I am elected, I will allocate my salary for the education of needy, willing and talented children".
Franco Esposito's other words, in the video service below.
