Italian social andn tasteful lunch in Nairobi

A Mastechef at La Cantina in Shalom House

A tasty and pleasant evening in Italian sauce, with a strong social aftertaste.
This is how one could sum up the event organised at the ‘La cantina’ restaurant in Nairobi, the gastronomic initiative created by the Koinonia centre for the rehabilitation of street children, inside the Shalom House, which is in every way a breeding ground for boys and girls learning a trade and at the same time a place where one can eat well with many Italian specialities.
Under the aegis of Father Renato ‘Kizito’ Sesana, who created it years ago and is still active in its supervision, renowned chefs often turn up at the Cellar, who in their cooking teach, but also give the opportunity to taste dishes prepared paricularly well.
This is the case on Saturday 16 November, coinciding with the Week of Italian Cuisine in the World, thanks to the collaboration with the Italian Catering School of Loreto, in the Marche region. An evening of Italian specialities, thanks to the presence of Italian Master Chef Daniela Morbidoni and the well-known sommelier Cesare Lapadula, who will pair the dishes with wine provided by the importer New Italycor.
The menu includes a parmesan cheese fondue with eggs, potatoes and truffle, a creamy gorgonzola risotto with caramelised pears, as well as a Mediterranean-style chicken roll, ending with a chocolate cake with wild berries.
All, with charitable purposes, at Kes. 5000 per person, including a glass of wine.
The Cantina is in Nairobi's Ngong-Junction area on Comboni Road.
